Niseko United ski guide

Japan · Editorial review: 8 November 2026.

Early answers

Niseko United is four interlinked ski resorts — Niseko Hanazono Resort, Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village Ski Resort and Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area — on one volcano, Niseko Annupuri (1,308 m). The operator places the mountain about 100 km south of Sapporo, in the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Kaigan Quasi-National Park. Treat it as a multi-base plan: choose which resort you start from, and which gates or learning zones you will actually use, before treating the powder reputation as an itinerary. About Niseko United, checked 2026-11-08.

Key takeaways

  • Four resorts share one mountain; a Niseko United all-mountain product is what the operator sells for access across them, and each area publishes its own closing date.
  • Monthly snowfall figures in the snow section are Japan Meteorological Agency 1991–2020 normals for the Kutchan town station (elevation 176.1 m), not a mid-mountain Niseko United plot.
  • The operator’s own 2021 resort guide describes average snowfall of 12–16 m and a deepest snow depth of 5.3 m, without stating averaging years; those mountain-oriented headlines are not the same series as the JMA town normals.
  • Ikon Pass lists Niseko United; day limits and blackout rules depend on the named product and should be checked before travel.
  • Measured weekday, weekend and holiday lift-queue times have not been verified for this guide.

How should I plan lift tickets at Niseko United?

Check whether your ticket or pass covers all four resorts for your dates, and which base you will use for lessons, rentals and first lifts. The operator publishes a Niseko United All Mountain Pass calendar for 2026–27, with different last operating days by resort: Niseko Village is listed through 4 April 2027, Hanazono through 11 April 2027, and Annupuri and Grand Hirafu through 5 May 2027, all opening on 28 November 2026, subject to change. Night skiing is listed from 12 December 2026 to 22 March 2027. Enter only the access you will actually use into your own trip plan. Equipment, food and the journey from New Chitose Airport or elsewhere are separate categories; this guide does not infer a complete day cost from a lift ticket. 2026–27 Niseko United All Mountain Pass, checked 2026-11-08.

A large linked area and night-skiing calendar are not a substitute for measured queues at a named lift. Match arrival and lesson plans to one workable base rather than assuming every sector is equally convenient on a busy day.

Who should consider Niseko United?

  • Beginners: The operator’s 2021 resort guide says each of the four resorts has gentle beginner zones. Hanazono’s current about-page copy also mentions dedicated learning areas. Confirm the lesson meeting point and the return route to your base before treating the whole mountain as a first-day circuit.
  • Families: Grand Hirafu is described as the largest of the four areas and the one with the widest village base of hotels, shops and restaurants. Niseko Village is described as having abundant family focuses. Build the day around one base and the official shuttle rather than assuming easy walking between every named sector.
  • Experts: The same 2021 guide lists 19 advanced runs, 18 powder runs and 9 gates, plus resort-operated backcountry guiding companies. Gate and off-piste access depends on the current opening report, local rules and avalanche conditions; a powder headline is not an itinerary.

The guide’s vertical figure is written as 1.048m; with the 260 m base it matches the 1,308 m summit (1,048 m of vertical). The resort-guide PDF on the official site is dated September 2021. Later lift changes, including facilities named on the current lift-status page, may not be reflected in those 2021 counts. Published specifications do not establish which terrain or lifts are open today. A current combined lift total was not published as a single figure on the pages checked.

Is Niseko United on the Ikon Pass?

Ikon destination; entitlement depends on the named product. Niseko United has its own Ikon destination page, which lists access for the Ikon Pass, Ikon Base Pass and Ikon Session Pass across Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and Annupuri. Check the named product, travel dates, reservations and any blackout or day-limit rules with the pass company and the operator. Network membership alone does not establish your entitlement. Epic Pass inclusion is not claimed here.

Frequently asked questions

When does Niseko United typically open and close?

The operator’s published 2026–27 calendar lists a shared opening date of 28 November 2026, with closing dates that differ by resort through early April or 5 May 2027. Those are planned dates for one season, not a multi-year average, and the operator notes that opening days and hours are subject to change.

Is the monthly snow chart measured on the ski mountain?

No. The monthly chart uses JMA 1991–2020 snowfall normals from the Kutchan surface station at 176.1 m, a town station near Niseko rather than a resort mid-mountain plot. The operator’s May 2026 season recap, by contrast, reports 2025–26 snowfall month by month at Grand Hirafu’s 850 m weather station: 3.7 m in December, 6.2 m in January, 2.63 m in February, 75 cm in March and 10 cm in April, with a season total of 13.5 m, 80 fresh-snow days, and a peak base depth of 4 m at 850 m on 20 February 2026. That recap is one winter, not an average, so it is not used as the chart.

How do the operator snowfall headlines compare with the JMA town series?

They should not be added together or treated as the same measurement. JMA’s Kutchan normal for annual snowfall is 921 cm (1991–2020). The 2021 official resort guide states average snowfall of 12–16 m and a deepest snow depth of 5.3 m, without averaging years. The 2025–26 mountain-station total of 13.5 m at Grand Hirafu 850 m sits inside that 12–16 m range and is higher than the town normal, which is what you would expect when comparing a lower-elevation town station with a mountain plot.

Do I need one pass to ski between the four resorts?

The operator sells a Niseko United All Mountain Pass covering the four linked resorts. Confirm the product you hold, and remember that the four areas do not all share the same closing date on the published 2026–27 calendar.
